The underlying principle which led to the creation of the BEARING TEST SET is a relatively simple one. Basically, it is the fact that every rotating (or reciprocating) machine part will product both sound and vibration patterns during the normal cycle of operation.

The early onset of malfunction, from a variety of trouble sources, will produce detectable deviations from normal sound and vibration patterns.

The BEARING TEST SET is designed to detect these significant deviations in sound and vibration patterns which, in most cases, are early warnings of potential malfunctions which may result in costly downtime.

CONSTRUCTION

The basic BEARING TEST SET Model consists of a solid-state, lightweight, battery-powered amplifier with a VU-meter and plug-in headphones. The solid-state circuitry assures stable, dependable operation. Battery-power (4C-size, dry-cell batteries) enables the operator to use the BEARING TEST SET in a wide range of environments with a freedom and flexibility impossible to obtain from AC-powered units and also eliminates warm-up time.

OPERATION

Handling ease and operational simplicity are keynotes of the BEARING TEST SET design. A belt supplied permits wearing the amplifier (at waist or shoulder) leaving both hands free. The single, operating control is a seven-position rotary selector switch combining the functions of an ON/OFF switch – BATTERY-TEST switch – and a stepped five-level, GAIN CONTROL with a 1 to 500 range of sensitivity permitting detection and analysis of virtually any level of signal encountered in practical service.

The VU-meter provides quantitative indication of equipment condition and permits measurements to be logged numerically. Headset signals permit rapid, audio-evaluation and correlation with VU-meter information.
